As a result of a masterplan, a new office and laboratory building was to be built for the Shell Grease Manufacturing Plant in Ghent, in the northern industrial area of the city, on the east side of Pantserschipstraat.

The building was to bring together all the laboratory functions, then housed on the west side of the street, with a new reception, centralised site management offices, quality control laboratories and lockers for all Shell staff.
